27 May 2026, Making Room for Children and Art Symposium, Sheffield Museum, UK

On 27 May 2025, as an artist and researcher I was participated in the symposium Making Room for Children and Art, held at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield, UK organised by Dr. Assunta Ruocco. The event brought together artists, researchers, curators, and cultural practitioners to explore the intersections of artistic practice, parenthood, care, and intergenerational collaboration.

The symposium provided a platform for discussing how artists can integrate children and family life into their creative work while challenging traditional models of artistic production. Through presentations, conversations, and shared experiences, participants reflected on new approaches to authorship, collaboration, and the role of care within contemporary art.

Among the invited speakers were pioneering artist Shirley Cameron, whose decades-long practice has explored motherhood and collaborative creativity with her twin daughters; writer and curator Hettie Judah, internationally recognised for her advocacy for artist-parents; and Jo Harrison, co-founder of the Art Working Parents Alliance, which supports and advocates for artist-parents across the UK.

As part of the programme, I presented my artistic research on collaborative creative practices involving children. My son, Maurycy, joined me on stage, embodying the symposium’s core themes of intergenerational exchange, care, and shared creative experience.

My participation in the symposium was made possible thanks to the support of Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant awarded to dr Assunta Ruocco and the NetWorks grant from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, for which I am deeply grateful.
